‘Be a good Christian’ – why can’t I just be a good person?

They say be a good Christian…. why can’t I just be a good person?

Is that not good enough for god? Why can’t my good morals be god enough?

What is a Christian?

Someone who accepts Christ as your Lord and personal saviour, have faith and to be Christ-like.

In life we come across so many types of people; no one person is the sam,e and it can be said that everyone is good in their own way.

The question that is on my mind is – can I be a good person and go to heaven without the Jesus part?

3 John 1:11:

Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does well is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.

James 2:24:

You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.

James 2:14-17: 14:

What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

John 14:6:

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Matthew 7:21-23:

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name, cast out demons in your name, and done many wonders in your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you who practice lawlessness!’

It’s a very deep and almost worrying thing to discuss – end times, judgement day, the rapture, and so forth. But it’s something that HAS to be discussed – why do we need to be Christians anyway in order to make it to Heaven?

Have a watch of some of our responses below.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments,

For this is man’s all. 14 For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.

It’s an important thing to consider when you’re on a journey and wanting to know more about Christ – who is the epitome of true goodness. He was perfect. And He lives in us.
